- נָעַץ(cmp. עוץ, אוץ) 1) to prick, stick; to wedge in. Men.64b נ׳ צפרניווכ׳ the swine pressed its nails against the wall; Sot.49b; Y.Ber.IV, 7b, a. e.Y.Shek.V, 48d bot. כשהיה נוֹעֵץ גזדלווכ׳ when he inserted his thumb into his month. Sabb.17a נָעֲצוּ חרבוכ׳ they stuck a sword into the floor of the college; a. fr.Part. pass. נָעוּץ. Bets.7b, v. דֶּקְר. Erub.III, 3; a. e. 2) to cut a wedge-like ditch (נָעִיץ).
